A drama in which a story unfolds based on dance. Not only Kabuki dance and ballet, but also folk and tribal dances from all over the world can be considered dance dramas, although the nuances may differ. In Kabuki dance, except for variations, all dances, such as "Kyokago Musume Dojoji", exist along with the progression of the story, and new dances since the Meiji period are characterized by a consistent story development. Ballet became a coherent drama due to the reforms of J. Nover in the 18th century, but the five-chapter reform plan of M. Fokine in the early 20th century further closely linked the dramatic and dance elements.
