Kanazawa fence

Japanese:
Kanazawa fence
An ancient castle fortress in Kanazawa, Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. It was the residence of the Kiyohara clan and was the site of a fierce battle during the Gosannen War (1083-87). It is said that an Emishi fortress had existed on the site of the Kanazawa Fortress from long ago, but it is said that the head of the family, Kiyohara Takenori, who was appointed Chinjufu Shogun for his achievements in defeating the Abe clan during the Zenkunen War ( 1051-62 ), and became the most powerful force in the two provinces of Ou and Dewa in place of the Abe clan, developed it into his residence. Later, an internal conflict within the Kiyohara clan (conflict between Kiyohara Sanehira and Kiyohira ) led to the Gosannen War (1083-87), which again invited the intervention of Minamoto no Yoshiie (Mutsu no Kami). With Yoshiie's mediation, the conflict between the two sides seemed to have been resolved, but it flared up again, and a battle between Kiyohara Kiyohira, Minamoto Yoshiie and Kiyohara Masahira took place. The allied forces of Kiyohira and Yoshiie attacked Masahira at Numa no Saku (Yokote City), but were defeated and fled due to insufficient preparations for winter warfare. Masahira then moved his base to Kanazawa Saku, which was said to be impregnable, and barricaded himself there with Kiyohara Takehira, the younger brother of Kiyohara Takesada. The allied forces attacked again in 1087 (Kanji 1), but were unable to take the castle, so they surrounded the saku and starved it out. As a result, Masahira and Takehira, who had run out of food, set fire to Kanazawa Saku and fled. Takehira and Masahira were captured, and the rebellion came to an end in December of the same year. After this battle, Kiyohara Kiyohira reverted to his father's (Fujiwara Tsunekiyo) surname and became the first of three generations of the glorious Oshu Fujiwara clan. There are various theories about the location of Kanazawasaku, one of which is that it was located on Hachimanyama in the city. Currently, the site is Kanazawa Park (historic park). Within the park, remains of castle grounds such as trenches and pillars remain, which are believed to be from Kanazawasaku. Currently, the location of Kanazawa Hachiman Shrine is considered to be Ninomaru, the hill to the right of Ninomaru is the site of Honmaru, the sumo ring behind the shrine is the site of Kitanomaru, and the flat area one level below the shrine (next to the current parking lot) is the site of Kanazawasaku's armory. The Gosannen no Yak Kanazawa Museum, run by Yokote City, is located within the park. It is about a 20-minute bus ride from JR Yokote Station on the Ou Main Line. ◇It is also called "Kanezawa no Ki," Peacock Castle, or Kanaarai Castle.
