A former town in Aso County in southwest Tochigi Prefecture. Occupying the southern foot of the Ashio Mountains, most of the area is mountainous and hilly. The Tobu Sano Line runs through the town. Sewing and other textile industries are thriving. Rice, strawberries, and konjac are produced here. Shiitake mushrooms are a local specialty.
