The Fourth Ecumenical Council was held in Chalcedon, Asia Minor, in 451. It criticized Monophysitism and Nestorius and established the Chalcedonian Creed, which expresses the orthodox doctrine that Christ possesses both the divine and human natures in perfect form, "unmixed, unchanging, indivisible, inseparable." It is said that Pope Leo I was the driving force behind this, and thereafter the Christian world was divided into Chalcedonians (Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church) and non-Chalcedonians. →Related topics Christianity | Christology | Coptic Church Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
