Tanaka Manor - Tanaka no Sho

Japanese:
Tanaka Manor - Tanaka no Sho
This manor was located in Naka County, Kii Province, and is considered to be the southern half of Uchida Town, Wakayama Prefecture. It was also written as Tanaka. The date of its establishment is unknown. It became the property of the Sekkan family in the early 12th century, and in 1110, Fujiwara Tadazane donated part of his share of the stipend to Omi Hiyoshi Shrine (Hiyoshi Taisha) as a fee for the Hoke Hakko lectures. This donation and the start of the Hoke Hakko lectures were well known in the Middle Ages, and are even mentioned in the Tale of the Heike. It later became the property of the Konoe family, but the Konoe family did not have the right to administer the manor, and the position of lord was passed down to the head priest of Jodo-ji Temple until the end of the Muromachi period. From the late Heian period to the end of the Heian period, Sato Nakakiyo and his son Noriyoshi, who were the custodians of this manor, borrowed the authority of the Taira clan (later calling it the Kamakura shocho) to invade Arakawa Manor, which was adjacent to the south, and caused a fierce border dispute. In particular, Noriyoshi, during the Genpei War, built a castle in the manor, gathered troops, and invaded Arakawa Manor. However, Noriyoshi's actions did not gain the support of Minamoto no Yoritomo, and the conflict ended in 1186. In the Sonpi Bunmyaku, the poet Saigyo (commonly known as Sato Yoshikiyo) is listed as Nakakiyo's younger brother. In the Kamakura period, the Tanaka clan, who had solidified their alliance with the Yuasa clan, seem to have been the land stewards. In the mid-15th century, a dispute arose over the common mountain of this manor, which was located within Arakawa Manor, and this forest dispute continued into the early modern period.
