An alga of the family Zygophyceae in the order Zygophytales of the Chlorophyta Zygophyceae. It grows in relatively clean water such as standing water in marshes and lakes. The algae are single-celled and angular with sharp ends, resembling a crescent moon. The cells are 100-800 μm long, have a central nucleus, and are symmetrical from top to bottom, but have no central constriction. 緑藻類接合藻類ホシミドロ目チリモ科の藻類。湿原のたまり水,湖沼などで比較的きれいな水中に発生する。藻体は単細胞,両端がとがった角形で,三日月によく似ている。細胞は長さ 100~800μm,中央に核があり,上下対称的な構造であるが,中央部にくびれはみられない。全世界に分布しており,日本から 80以上の種が知られている。
