In 1955, HC Conklin published a study on the classification system of plants among the Hanunoh-Manyan people of Mindoro Island (Philippines), and the following year, WH Goodenough and FG Lounsbury independently published studies that viewed kinship names as a (linguistic) system of meanings in which kin are arranged genealogically, and analyzed their internal structure.
