A solid pendulum devised to measure the acceleration due to gravity. It has a fulcrum near each end of a metal rod, and two movable weights attached to each end. By reversing the position of the fulcrum and moving the movable weight to make the oscillation period the same, the distance between the two fulcrums can be regarded as the length of the pendulum equivalent to that of an ideal simple pendulum. This allows the acceleration due to gravity to be calculated from the distance between the two fulcrums and the period, without having to calculate the moment of inertia of the entire pendulum. 重力加速度を測定するために考案された実体振り子。金属棒の両端付近にそれぞれ支点があり、可動式の二つのおもりを取り付けたもの。支点の位置を逆にし、可動式のおもりを移動して振動周期を同じにすることで、両支点間の距離を理想的な単振り子と等価な振り子の長さと見なすことができる。これにより、振り子全体の慣性モーメントなどを求めることなく、両支点間の距離と周期から重力加速度が求められる。ケーターの可逆振り子。
