The title of a shakuhachi honkyoku (main piece). It is not religious music for religious ceremonies or training of the Fuke sect, but music for appreciation that expresses the affection between parents and children and husband and wife through depictions of animal ecology. This hade piece is on par with "Tsuru no Sugomori," which also has an animal theme. The cry of a stag roars deep in the mountains in late autumn. The distant sound echoes through the valley and sways in the wind, resonating sadly in the tranquil autumn scenery. As the original name suggests, "Yobikaeshi Shikanotoone," it is played alternately on two shakuhachi. This is the only piece that uses this interplay format. The song's great appeal lies in the accidental dissonant intervals played by the two instruments, the virtuosity of the interplay that gradually becomes more urgent, and the unique techniques of the shakuhachi.
