The largest tributary of the Yellow River in China. Also known as the Wei River. It originates from the Birdsnake Mountain in southeastern Gansu Province, flows east into Shaanxi Province, passes north of Xi'an, and merges with the Yellow River near Tong Pass. Its total length is about 787 km. Its main tributaries are the Hulu River, the Jie River, and the Luo River. The Wei River irrigates the Wei River (Guanzhong) Plain and served as a means of transporting rice tax to successive dynasties. In recent years, the Jie River Canal was opened in 1935, and canals and irrigation channels such as the Wei Hui Canal have been completed under the People's Republic of China, and new construction and restoration are actively carried out. →Related items Yellow River | Zhou | Qin | Qinling | Shaanxi [province] | Chang'an | Tongguan | Pingliang Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
