An archaeological site located about 16 km southwest of Kirkuk in northeastern Iraq. Its current name is Yorghan Tepe. However, the area was called Nuzi in the 15th to 12th centuries BC, and in the latter half of the 3rd millennium BC it was called Gasur. Excavations were carried out between 1925 and 1931, mainly by American archaeologists, and several thousand clay tablets written in Akkadian mixed with Hurrian were unearthed. During the time when these documents were left (15th century BC), Nuzi was a city in the Kingdom of Arapha, under the control of the Kingdom of Mitanni, and had a considerable Hurrian population.
