...Eruptive activity has occurred in many places on the edifices of these shield volcanoes and in the surrounding areas, mainly from the end of the Pleistocene to the present, and many relatively small andesitic volcanic bodies and craters have been formed. The mountains that make up the central summits of the Kirishima volcanoes, such as Karakunidake, Onamiike (1,411 m), Shinmoedake (1,421 m), Nakadake (1,332 m), Ohachi (about 1,400 m), and Takachiho-no-mine (1,574 m), as well as the mountains of Imoriyama (846 m), Koshikidake (1,301 m), Hinamoridake (1,344 m), and Ohatayama (1,353 m), and the craters of Rokukannon-miike, Byakushi-ike, Fudo-ike, Ohata-ike, and Miike, were formed during this period. These craters and volcanic bodies are relatively new, so dissection of the mountain body is not very advanced.
