Tatsuno Domain

Japanese: 竜野藩 - たつのはん
Tatsuno Domain
This domain had its castle in Tatsuno, Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture (which belonged to Issai County in Harima Province during the Edo period). In 1617, Honda Masatomo, a hereditary vassal, was appointed with 50,000 koku and ruled over Issai and Issai counties. In 1626, Ogasawara Nagatsugu (60,000 koku including Shikasai County), in 1633 Okabe Nobukatsu (50,000 koku including Issai and Issai counties) and in 1637, Kyogoku Takakazu, an outsider, was appointed with 60,000 koku. In 1658, it became the territory of the shogunate and the castle was demolished. In 1672, Wakisaka Yasumasa was appointed with 53,000 koku (Isai, Issai, Mino County), and the same family ruled over the domain until the Meiji Restoration, when it was abolished in 1871. In 1681, the domain's territory was transferred from Minou County to Shikisai County, and in 1747, Mashima County in Mimasaka Province was added. The domain school was Keigokan. The domain was governed by the county, town, and village magistrates. In the late Edo period, attempts were made to alleviate the domain's financial difficulties, such as by imposing controls on soy sauce, the most important domestic product (the Shoyu Shiho), but these were withdrawn in the face of resistance from the domain's residents. The domain's finances became increasingly poor, but efforts to strengthen collection efforts were unsuccessful due to a strong petition in 1848 and an uprising the following year.
