One Mind, Three Views - Isshinsankan

Japanese: 一心三観 - いっしんさんがん

This is the most important method of meditation taught by Tendai. It is for realizing that all phenomena and existence are in accordance with the true law that transcends relative thinking. In a moment, the three views of emptiness, provisional view, and middle view are formed in the mind. Emptiness is a state of transcendence that denies ego-attachment, provisional view is a state in which one enters the secular world after mastering emptiness and saves all living beings, and middle view is a position that is not bound by the first two views and uses both. These three views are an attempt to put Nagarjuna's thought into practice.

天台で説く最も重要な観法。すべての事象・存在がそのまま相対思惟(しい)を越えた真実の理法にかなうことを体得するためのもの。一瞬の心のうちに，空観，仮観(けかん)，中観の三観が成立する。空観は我執を否定し超脱した境地，仮観は空観を体得したうえで世俗にはいって衆生を救うもの，中観は前二観にとらわれず，しかも両観を用いる立場である。この三観は竜樹の思想を実践しようとするものである。
