Kai-zhong-fa (English spelling)

Japanese: 開中法 - かいちゅうほう（英語表記）Kai-zhong-fa; K`ai-chung-fa

A type of trade law enacted during the Ming Dynasty in China. It required merchants to transport rice and millet to border areas and paid them salt or tea in return. Merchants who delivered rice and millet to border areas were given a bill of exchange called a kuracho or kango, which the merchants would show to the To Tenun Shio-shi or Shioka Teicho-shi of the designated salt-producing district in exchange for a salt-bill, which was a sales permit, and receive salt at the salt field, which they then transported to the designated consumption area (Gyo-shio Chibun) and sold. After the sale was completed, the salt-bill was to be returned to the government within a certain period of time.

中国，明代に施行された通商法の一種。商人に米粟を辺地に輸送させ，代価として塩もしくは茶を支給した法。辺境に米粟を納入した商人に，倉鈔，勘合といわれた手形を支給し，商人はこれを所定の各産塩区の都転運塩司，塩課提挙司に示し，販売許可証である塩引と交換し，塩場で塩を受取り，これを定められた消費区域 (行塩地分) に運搬，販売する。販売完了後は一定期間内に，塩引を政府に返納することになっていた。
