Journalist and China scholar. Born in Oita Prefecture. Dropped out of Waseda University. In 1906, he traveled to China as a journalist, and served as editor-in-chief of the Keishin Nichi Nichi Shimbun and other newspapers. In 1924, he founded Monthly China Studies. He comprehensively studied China, including ideology, society, politics, and economics, and was an understanding of the Chinese National Revolution that began at the time, making pioneering achievements in Chinese social theory and revolutionary theory. In 1925, he became a consultant for the South Manchuria Railway, and in 1931, he founded Manchuria Review, but after the Manchurian Incident broke out shortly after, he changed direction and supported the actions of the Kwantung Army, advocated the kingly way, and supported the establishment of the "Manchukuo" from a theoretical perspective. ジャーナリスト,中国研究者。大分県生れ。早稲田大学中退。1906年ジャーナリストとして渡中,《京津日日新聞》などの主筆を務め,1924年《月刊支那研究》を創刊。思想,社会,政治,経済など総合的に中国を研究し,おりから始まった中国国民革命に理解を寄せ,中国社会論,革命論に先駆的業績を残した。1925年満鉄嘱託となり,1931年《満州評論》を創刊するが,直後に勃発した満州事変を機に方向転換を表明して関東軍の行動を支持,王道論を唱え,〈満州国〉樹立を理論面から支援した。《橘樸著作集》全3巻がある。
