… Frankincense and myrrh were thus the main perfumes in ancient Egypt and the Orient, and they were also sent to India from ancient times. In India, similar pseudo-frankincense (kunzur) and pseudo-myrrh (guggul, or bderiam) were produced, which are typical Indian resin-based perfumes, and were widely used as adulterated aromatic resins by mixing them with appropriate amounts of genuine Arabian frankincense and myrrh. Various resin-based perfumes processed in India were then sent to the West and East Asia, especially China, and in the 5th and 6th centuries the Chinese called it kunrokuko, referring to a resin-based perfume brought over from India and Persia. …
