For example, the Zhuangzi frequently features the characters "Divine Man," "Zhen Man," and "Zhi Ren," while the Shan Hai Jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas) tells of legends about the elixir of immortality, the immortal people, the immortal land, and the immortal mountain. According to the Records of the Grand Historian (Feng Zenshu), during the Warring States period, Taoists in the eastern coastal regions actively promoted the idea that the three sacred mountains in the East Sea, called Penglai, Fangzhang, and Yingzhou, were places where immortals lived and where the elixir of immortality existed. The belief in the three sacred mountains was passed down to the First Emperor of Qin and Emperor Wu of Han. During the Han dynasty, legends were also born, such as the Yellow Emperor ascending to heaven as an immortal, or Laozi existing forever and appearing in various forms in the world many times.
