Tajima Mihonoura

Japanese: 但馬御火浦 - たじまみほのうら

This coast stretches for about 12 kilometers from the western edge of Kami Town in Mikata County to the eastern part of Shinonsen Town in northern Hyogo Prefecture. The Hokutan Mountains, where volcanic activity was active in the Tertiary Period, have sunk and been eroded by violent waves, resulting in cliffs, caves, and tunnels. It is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, and is included in San'in Kaigan National Park, making it a scenic spot on par with Kasumi Coast. Mio-Oshima, which displays mysterious columnar joints of rhyolite, and Tsurigane Cave, said to be the largest in Japan, are typical examples, and the calm Tai Matsushima area has been designated a marine park.

兵庫県北部、美方(みかた)郡香美町(かみちょう)西端から新温泉町(しんおんせんちょう)東部にかけて約12キロメートルの海岸。第三紀の火山活動が盛んであった北但(ほくたん)山地が沈降して激しい波浪の侵食を受け、断崖(だんがい)絶壁、洞窟(どうくつ)、洞門などが続く。国指定名勝・天然記念物であり、山陰海岸国立公園に含まれ、香住海岸と並ぶ景勝地。なかでも流紋岩の不思議な柱状節理をみせる三尾(みお)大島、日本最大といわれる釣鐘(つりがね)洞門がその典型で、波静かな田井松島地区は海域公園に指定されている。
