Chinese scholar and poet from the late Ming and early Qing. Born in Wujiang County, Jiangsu Province. A student at the county school in the late Ming, he did not enter the Qing dynasty after the establishment of the new government in 1644. He instead poured his complicated feelings into poetry, studying under Qian Qianyi and annotating Du Fu's poems. He then reevaluated the person and poetry of Li Shangyin of the late Tang dynasty, publishing Annotated Annotations to the Poetry of Li Yishan and laying the foundations for the interpretation of Li's poetry. Later, following the advice of his friend Gu Yanwu, he turned to the study of texts such as the Book of Documents, the Book of Songs, and the Spring and Autumn Annals of Zuo. [Matsumura Takashi]

中国，明末･清初の学者，詩人。江蘇省呉江県の人。明末に県学の学生，1644年の清朝新政権成立後は出仕せず，複雑な心のうちを詩に託する一方，銭謙益に師事して杜甫詩の注釈に従事，つづいて晩唐の李商隠の人物と詩を再評価して《李義山詩集箋注》を刊行，李詩解釈学の基礎をきずいた。のち友人顧炎武の勧めにしたがって《書経》《詩経》《春秋左氏伝》など経書の考証学に転じた。【松村昂】
