It refers to the coastline of eastern Shizuoka Prefecture, the inner part of Suruga Bay, the southern part of Fuji City, and the Tagonoura Port area, and includes the area from Fukiage Beach in the Kanbara area of Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, through the mouth of the Fuji River, and around the mouth of the Numa River in Fuji City. Currently, it is often written as "Tagonoura". The view of Mt. Fuji and the white sand and green pine coast are known as a scenic spot, and have been sung about in many ancient poems, such as the poem by Yamabe no Akahito in Volume 3 of the Manyoshu. Sand dunes have also developed. The point where the Numa River and Urui River join and flow into Suruga Bay developed as Yoshiwara Port in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Periods. Construction of the excavated Tagonoura Port began in 1958 (Showa 33) and was completed in 1970, but the surrounding area was lined with various factories, completely changing the landscape. It is designated as an important port. [Kitagawa Mitsuo] [References] | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
