A wet perennial plant of the Crassulaceae family. It is the only species in the Crassulaceae family that does not have fleshy leaves. Some consider it to be included in the Saxifragaceae family, while others consider it to be an independent species in the Crassulaceae family, but it can be grafted with Crassulaceae plants, and it is thought to be closely related. This unusual name was given because the inflorescence spreads out like an octopus's tentacles, and the flowers are arranged in a wart-like pattern. The stems are upright and up to 90 cm tall. The leaves are alternate, lanceolate, with numerous sawtooth edges, thin, 5 to 12 cm long, and about 1 cm wide. They bloom from August to early September, and lack petals.
