A politician from the Choshu (Hagi) domain in the late Edo period. His given name was Kageharu, and he was commonly known as Tota. He was a Tokin-fushi (attached to the Tono clan) with a stipend of over 49 koku. In 1843 (Tenpo 14), he became an assistant to the right-hand man Tsuboi Kuemon. In 1848 (Kaei 1), he became the right-hand man in charge of Meirinkan. The right-hand man was also known as the government official and was a key practical official position. In 1849, he was replaced by his political rival Shubu Masanosuke. In 1858 (Ansei 5), he was appointed as the magistrate of Kumage Saiban (an intermediate organization for governing villages in the Hagi domain), but was dismissed in 1860. After the domain was driven out of the government in the political upheaval of August 18, 1863 (Bunkyu 3), he rallied the popular opinion faction to pressure the domain government, and was forced to retire. During the first Choshu expedition, he returned to his position as a government official and executed many former government officials. After losing the civil war within his domain in the Genji era, he escaped, was captured in the Tsuwano domain, and was beheaded in Haginoyama Prison.

幕末の長州(萩)藩の政治家。名は景治。通称は藤太。遠近付士で禄高49石余。天保14(1843)年右筆坪井九右衛門の添役となる。嘉永1(1848)年右筆明倫館用掛となる。右筆は政務役ともいう実務役人の要職。同6年,政敵の周布政之助と交代。安政5(1858)年熊毛宰判(萩藩の郷村支配の中間組織)代官に任じ,万延1(1860)年に罷免された。文久3(1863)年の8月18日の政変で同藩が追われたのち,俗論派を結集して藩政府に迫り,隠居の処分を受けた。第1次長州征討の際,政務員に復帰して旧政府員多数を処刑し,元治の藩内の内戦に敗れて脱走し,津和野藩内で捕らえられ,萩野山獄に斬首された。
