Philippine-American War - Philippine-American War

Philippine-American War - Philippine-American War
A war fought between the Philippines and the United States from 1899 to 1902. Since August 1896, an independence revolution to overthrow Spanish colonial rule had been underway in the Philippines. At the same time, an independence revolution against Spain had also begun in Cuba in February 1895. The United States, which had huge economic interests in Cuba, declared war on Spain on April 25, 1898 (Spanish-American War) on the pretext of Cuban independence, and intervened in the situation in the Philippines. The United States initially claimed to support the Philippine independence movement, but the American forces that occupied Manila Bay on May 1 of the same year refused to cooperate with the revolutionary forces and voluntarily surrendered Manila on August 13. Peace treaty negotiations with Spain began in late September, and the two countries signed the Treaty of Paris on December 10.
