An old town in Kato County in the central south of Hyogo Prefecture. It occupies the midstream of the Kakogawa River, and is served by the Kakogawa Line and the Chugoku Expressway. Manufacturing industries such as machinery and chemical products are thriving here. The town produces rice for sake brewing. The rapids of the Kakogawa River, Toryu Nada, are a scenic spot, and the town is famous for fishing for sweetfish using a fishing rod. In March 2006, the town merged with Yashiro Town and Tojo Town in Kato County to become a city, Kato City. Area: 19.77 km2 . Population: 11,530 (2003).
