Lo‐Ex (English spelling)

Lo‐Ex (English spelling)
A type of heat-resistant aluminum alloy. It contains about 12% silicon, 1% copper, 1% magnesium, and 2% nickel. Its high silicon content means it has low thermal expansion, while the copper and magnesium give it heat treatability and increase its strength, and the nickel gives it heat resistance. Its heat resistance and low thermal expansion make it useful for pistons in internal combustion engines. The name Lo-Ex comes from its low expansion coefficient. It is used in castings and forgings.
