A type of stipend system in Korea and Silla. Apart from being temporarily abolished between 689 and 757, it was in place throughout the Silla period. Until its temporary abolition, the stipend system, like the shok-eup system, was a system in which certain ruling rights over specific regions were given to aristocratic bureaucrats as a stipend, and is thought to have originated from the territorial control of the former chieftain class. In contrast, after the stipend system was revived, specific villages were designated as stipends for each government office, and the funds were used for expenses such as stipends, and individual bureaucrats were not allowed to have fixed control over villages.
