Casserole - casserole (English spelling)

A Western-style thick pot with a lid. It can be made of ceramic, heat-resistant glass, or enameled. It can also refer to food cooked in it. Pots are made for stewing or baking in the oven, and are highly heat-resistant. They are also used to transfer cooked food to keep it warm, or when you want to heat the surface more strongly in the oven, such as for gratin. By covering the pot, the moisture in the ingredients is trapped, allowing them to be cooked in a steamed state, and this has the added benefit of not compromising the flavor. In France, this type of pot is called a cocotte.

洋風の蓋(ふた)付きの厚手鍋(なべ)。陶器、耐熱ガラス、ほうろう引きのものなどがある。これで調理した料理をさすこともある。鍋は、オーブンの中で煮物や焼き物調理をするためにつくられたもので、耐熱性に優れている。また、調理済みの料理をこれに移して保温したり、グラタンのようにさらにオーブンで表面を強く加熱したい場合にも使われる。蓋をすることにより、中の材料の水分が閉じ込められて蒸し焼き状態で調理ができるほか、風味を損なわないという利点がある。フランスではこのタイプの鍋をココットという。
