Olingo - Apple (English spelling) olingo

A general term for animals in the Olingo genus of the Procyonidae family of the Carnivora order of the Mammalia class. There are several species in the Bassaricyon genus, which are distributed from Nicaragua in Central America to Peru in South America. The head and body length is 35 to 48 cm, the tail length is 40 to 48 cm, and the weight is 950 to 1,500 grams. The body is long and slender, the head is round, the top is flat, and the ears are small and blunt at the tips, and the left and right sides are separated. The face resembles that of the kinkajou, which belongs to the same family, but the tail has dark bands, and it cannot wrap its tail around tree branches. The front and back legs are short and have sharp claws. The fur is dense and soft, the upper body is a yellowish brown with a mixture of black and gray, and the underside is pale yellow. It lives in tropical rainforests from lowlands to 2,000 meters above sea level, and is nocturnal. It usually lives alone, in pairs, or sometimes in groups with kinkajous near the treetops. They mainly eat fruit, but occasionally eat insects. They collect leaves and branches to build nests in tree holes. They give birth to one young at a time. B. gabii has brownish upper body color and is found from Nicaragua to Ecuador.
