Haunch paralysis

Japanese: 腰麻痺 - ようまひ（英語表記）haunch paralysis

A disease of livestock such as goats, sheep, and horses. Cerebrospinal heartworm disease. The loins become weak and many suffer from lameness in the hind legs. In horses, it is known as a type of grazing disease, and occurs mainly in developing foals. Heartworm larvae invade the spinal cord, damaging it and causing movement problems. Treatment and prevention include administering diethylcarbamazine and preventing vector (mosquito) bites. However, in Hokkaido, it is said that it can occur as a type of fern poisoning during grazing, and the cause is not uniform.

やぎ，羊，馬などの家畜の病気。脳脊髄糸状虫症。腰が弱くなり，後肢だけが不自由になるものが多い。馬では放牧病の一種として知られ，おもに発育中の幼駒に発生する。糸状虫の幼虫が脊髄内に侵入し，脊髄を傷つけるので運動が不自由になる。治療・予防はジエチルカルバマジンなどの投与と媒介虫 (蚊) の刺咬防止。しかし北海道では，放牧中シダ類の一種の中毒症として発生することがあるともいわれ，原因は一様ではない。
