Isopod (Aega dofleini)

Japanese: グソクムシ(具足虫) - グソクムシ（英語表記）Aega dofleini

A small crustacean of the isopod family, Ploceidae, that usually lives on the sea floor but temporarily parasitizes fish. Its body is light brown and slender, spindle-shaped, about 4 cm long and 1 cm wide. The head has two dark, slender compound eyes. The front three pairs of thoracic legs are short and hook-shaped, suitable for clinging to other objects, while the rear pairs are long and well-formed for walking. The tips of the telson limbs and telson segment are sharp. It is collected from the deep sea floor off the coast of Japan. Many species of Ploceidae are known, but they are often taken alone from the sea floor.

ふつうは海底にすんでいるが，一時的に魚類に外部寄生する等脚目グソクムシ科の小型甲殻類。体は淡褐色をしており，細長い紡錘形で長さ4cm，幅1cmくらい。頭部には左右に分かれた暗色で細長の複眼がある。胸脚のうち前方の3対は短く，鉤（かぎ）形をしており，他物にしがみつくのに適し，これより後方の胸脚は長く，すべて歩行に適した形をしている。尾肢と尾節の先端はとがる。日本沿岸の深海底から採集される。グソクムシ科には多くの種類が知られているが，いずれも海底から単独でとられる場合が多い。
