...In the United States' federal court system, the United States Court of Appeals for the circuit, the Federal Republic of Germany's Oberlandesgericht, France's Cour d'appel, and the United Kingdom's Court of Appeal are equivalent to the Japanese High Court. However, the court system reflects the unique circumstances of each country, and there are some aspects that cannot be viewed as uniformly similar to those in Japan, such as the fact that the United Kingdom's Court of Appeal is one throughout the country, and that Germany's Oberlandesgericht is a federal institution, while the Landgericht of first instance is an institution for each state. Japan's Court of Appeals is said to have inherited the French system, and the current High Court is thought to have maintained that tradition to some extent.
