A city located on the right bank of the midstream Yodo River in the Osaka Plain in northeastern Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1943. It developed around Takatsuki, the castle town of Takayama Ukon and later the castle town of the Nagai clan, and Akutagawa, a post town on the Saigoku Kaido road. After the opening of the Hankyu Railway in the early Showa period, the area began to develop into a residential area and factories moved in. There are many large factories producing electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, food, cellophane, etc., and there are research laboratories for Osaka Medical College and Kyoto University. The Tokaido Main Line and Hankyu Kyoto Line run through the area, and in recent years the area has become significantly more residential. Settsukyo Gorge is located in the north. 大阪府北東部,大阪平野の淀川中流右岸にある市。1943年市制。高山右近の居城で,のち永井氏の城下町であった高槻と西国街道の宿場町芥川(あくたがわ)を中心に発達。昭和初期,阪急電鉄開通後,住宅地化,工場進出が始まった。電気機器,製薬,食品,セロハンなどの大工場が多く,大阪医大,京大の研究所がある。東海道本線,阪急京都線が通じ,近年は住宅地化が著しい。北部に摂津峡がある。名神高速道路が通じる。105.29km2。35万7359人(2010)。
