An American film production and distribution company. One of the major companies in Hollywood. In Japan, it is also known as Unite Films. It was founded in 1919 by four of America's leading filmmakers at the time: Charles Chaplin, actor Douglas Fairbanks, actress Mary Pickford, and director DW Griffith. It was the first film company run by artists rather than businessmen, and with the goal of producing high-quality films, it did not depend on the Hollywood studio system, but instead raised its own production funds and distributed its own films. It did not own studios, but instead rented facilities as needed, and adopted a policy of eliminating unnecessary overhead costs.

アメリカの映画製作および配給会社。かつてのハリウッドの〈メジャー〉の一つ。日本ではユナイト映画の略称でも通じている。1919年，当時のアメリカの代表的映画人であったチャールズ･チャップリン，俳優のダグラス･フェアバンクス，女優のメリー･ピックフォード，監督のD.W.グリフィスの4人によって設立された。実業家ではなく〈アーチスツ(芸術家たち)〉による最初の映画会社で，質的にすぐれた映画の製作を目的に，ハリウッドの〈撮影所システム〉に従属せず，みずからの手で製作資金を調達し，みずからの手でその作品を配給することをモットーとし，撮影所も所有せずに必要に応じて施設を借り，むだな間接費をはぶく政策をとった。
