A branch bay of the northern part of Sendai Bay in northern Miyagi Prefecture. The border is Ishinomaki City, and it is divided into the ria rocky coast of the Oshika Peninsula in the east and the flat sandy coast in the west. The eastern part has many inlets, such as Tashiro Island, Aji Island, Ayukawa Bay, and Mangokuura, where shallow water aquaculture of seaweed, oysters, and wakame seaweed is carried out, and the production of seed oysters in particular is one of the leading in the country. In the western part, the extension of the Sanuma lowlands and the Oyachi lowlands is a coastline blocked by beach ridges, into which the old Kitakami River, Jogawa River, and Narusegawa River flow. At the mouth of the Jogawa River is the excavated Ishinomaki Industrial Port. [Kotaro Aoyagi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
