本来すすぐ，洗い流すの意。洗髪後髪に残ったシャンプー剤のアルカリ分を中和させ油脂分を補い，柔軟性を与えてブラシや櫛の通りをよくするために用いる。酸性リンス，クリーム・リンス，オイル・リンスなどがある。近年はさらに油脂分やアミノ酸の多いヘア・トリートメント剤も用いられる。
