Ichimatsu Ishida

Entertainer and politician. Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. He moved to Tokyo to become an enka singer, and after studying hard, graduated from Hosei University in 1927 (Showa 2). In 1932, he joined Yoshimoto Kogyo, making a name for himself as an "intellectual current affairs song singer" and performing on stage with his "carefree style" that satirized the social climate, while also appearing in films. From 1946 (Showa 21), he was elected to the House of Representatives four times, and was active as a Democratic Party representative, becoming a pioneer of what would later be called "celebrity politicians." He is the author of "Carefree Philosophy" (1946).

演芸家、政治家。広島県出身。上京して演歌師となり、苦学して1927年（昭和2）法政大学を卒業。1932年吉本興業に入り「インテリ時事小唄(こうた)」の看板を掲げ、世相を風刺した「のんき節」をもって舞台に立つ一方、映画にも出演した。1946年（昭和21）以降衆議院議員に4回当選、民主党代議士として活躍、後世いうところのタレント議員の草分けになった。自著に『のんき哲学』（1946）がある。
