Japanese: イシダイ(石鯛) - イシダイ（英語表記）Oplegnathus fasciatus

A marine fish of the family Oplegnathidae (illustration) in the order Perciformes. Like the punctatus punctatus (illustration) of the same family, it is characterized by stacked teeth with the gaps between them filled with calcareous matter, forming a beak-like shape. It has seven wide horizontal black stripes on its side, and is also called Shimadai or Shichinoji. As it grows, these stripes become less distinct and the whole fish turns black. As the area around the mouth of older adult fish turns black, it is also called Kuroguchi, Kuchiguro, and Black Mask, especially in the Kansai region.

スズキ目イシダイ科の海産魚（イラスト）。同科のイシガキダイ（イラスト）とともに歯が積み重なり，間隙（かんげき）が石灰質でみたされくちばしのようになっているのが特徴。体側に7本の幅の広い黒い横縞があり，シマダイ，シチノジなどとも呼ばれる。この縞は成長するとはっきりしなくなり全体に黒ずんでくる。老成魚では口のまわりが黒くなってくるので，とくに関西ではクログチ，クチグロ，ブラックマスクなどの呼名も使われる。
