Born: April 1, 1899 in Osaka Died May 25, 1977. Protestant theologian from Kyoto. After graduating from Tokyo Prefectural First Middle School (1916), he went on to study at the Doshisha University Theology Department. During his middle school years, he was troubled by problems in life and converted to Christianity. In 1922, upon graduation, he went to America to study at the University of Chicago and Union Theological Seminary. After returning to Japan, he became a lecturer and professor at his alma mater. During that time, he was awarded a PhD in Theology from Union Theological Seminary. He specialized in church history and doctrinal history. After World War II, he became a professor at Kyoto University. His main works are Studies on Origen (43) and Problems of Ontology in Christian Thought (69).
