Yoshitoshi Shibukawa

Japanese:
Yoshitoshi Shibukawa
Year of death: November 14, 1434 (December 14, 1434)
Year of birth: 1400
A military commander in the early Muromachi period. His father was Mitsuyori, who was a Sakon no Shogen. In 1419, he was appointed as Kyushu Tandai. That year, an incident occurred in which Korea sent troops to Tsushima (the Oei Invasion) in an effort to crack down on wako pirates, but Yoshitoshi prevented this. In May 1407, he fought Shoni Mitsusada in Hakata, was defeated, and retreated to Hizen. This defeat marked a rapid decline in the power of the Kyushu Tandai. In 1408, he fought the Shoni again, but was defeated again. He died at Sakami Castle in Chikugo Province. After Yoshitoshi's death, the Kyushu Tandai lost its leadership in trade with Korea, and the Shibukawa clan lost its true role in Kyushu, becoming a minor force that controlled eastern Hizen. <References> Kawazoe Shoji, "The Process of the Decline of the Kyushu Tandai" (Kyushu Culture Research Institute Bulletin, No. 23)
