EHF - EHF

Abbreviation for extremely high frequency. One of the frequency bands defined in the Radio Regulations attached to the Charter of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the range is from 30 GHz to 300 GHz. In terms of wavelength, it refers to a wavelength band ranging from 1 centimeter to 1 millimeter, and is classified as millimeter wave.

This frequency band is not so easy to handle because it is close to infrared. Rather than using it as a communication medium, it is often used for remote sensing of the properties of objects that naturally emit radio waves in this frequency band. For example, radio astronomy, earth observation satellites, simple radio, special radar equipment, etc.

extremely high frequencyの略称。国際電気通信連合（ITU）憲章に付属する無線通信規則に定められている周波数区分の一つで、その範囲は30ギガヘルツを超え、300ギガヘルツ以下の周波数帯をいう。波長で表せば、1センチメートルから1ミリメートルの範囲の波長帯をいい、ミリ波（ミリメートル波）に区分される。

　この周波数帯になると、赤外線の性質に近づいてくるので、取扱いもそう容易ではない。通信の媒体とするよりも、この周波数帯の電波を自然放射している物体の性質をリモート・センシング（遠隔探査）するような目的に使用されることが多くなる。たとえば、電波天文学、地球観測衛星、簡易無線、特殊レーダー装置などである。
