Ishida [town] - Ishida
A former town in Iki County, northeastern Nagasaki Prefecture. It occupies the southeastern part of Iki Island. It produces rice, tobacco leaves, and beef cattle, and also engages in fishing, including sea bream fishing. The town's center is Indoji in the south, and a ferry runs from Karatsu in Saga Prefecture. Tsutsukihama Beach in the east is known as a scenic swimming beach, and there is an airport nearby. In March 2004, it merged with the towns of Gonoura, Katsumoto, and Ashibe in Iki County to form Iki City. Area: 16.51 km2 . Population: 4,923 (2003).

長崎県北東部,壱岐(いき)郡の旧町。壱岐島の南東部を占める。米,葉タバコ,肉牛などを産し,タイ漁などの漁業も行われる。中心は南部の印通寺(いんどうじ)で,佐賀県の唐津からフェリーが通じる。東部の筒城(つつき)浜は風景の美しい海水浴場として知られ,近くに空港もある。2004年3月壱岐郡郷ノ浦町,勝本町,芦辺町と合併し,壱岐市となる。16.51km2。4923人(2003)。
