Daio [town] - Daio

Japanese: 大王[町] - だいおう

This old town occupies the southeastern tip of the Shima Peninsula in Shima District, Mie Prefecture, and faces the Pacific Ocean to the east and Ago Bay to the west. Nakiri, in the center, is a fishing port with a large amount of bonito landings. Pearl farming is thriving in Ago Bay. Agriculture such as vegetable cultivation is also carried out, and in recent years industries such as low-voltage electrical appliance factories have moved in. It is part of Ise-Shima National Park and is home to Cape Daiozaki. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Hamajima, Shima, Ago, and Isobe in Shima District to form Shima City. 12.90 ^km2. Population 8,704 (2003).

三重県志摩郡，志摩半島南東端を占め，東は太平洋，西は英虞(あご)湾に臨む旧町。中心の波切(なきり)はカツオの水揚高の多い漁港。英虞湾では真珠養殖が盛ん。野菜栽培などの農業も行い，近年は弱電工場など工業が進出している。伊勢志摩国立公園の一部で，大王崎がある。2004年10月志摩郡浜島町，志摩町，阿児町，磯部町と合併し，志摩市となる。12.90km²。8704人（2003）。
