This old town occupies the southeastern tip of the Shima Peninsula in Shima District, Mie Prefecture, and faces the Pacific Ocean to the east and Ago Bay to the west. Nakiri, in the center, is a fishing port with a large amount of bonito landings. Pearl farming is thriving in Ago Bay. Agriculture such as vegetable cultivation is also carried out, and in recent years industries such as low-voltage electrical appliance factories have moved in. It is part of Ise-Shima National Park and is home to Cape Daiozaki. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Hamajima, Shima, Ago, and Isobe in Shima District to form Shima City. 12.90 km2.
