Born: Around 389 BC, Athens
Died around 314 BC. Greek orator and politician from Rhodes. One of the ten greatest orators in Attica. After joining the peace mission to King Philip of Macedonia in 348 BC, he led a fierce debate with Demosthenes, who was opposed to the Macedonian faction. His speech in 340 BC triggered the holy war over Delphi, which resulted in the Athenian army's defeat at the Battle of Chaeronia in 338 BC due to Macedonian intervention. Opposing Demosthenes's reward, he engaged in a final great oratory battle with Demosthenes in 330 BC. However, he lost the case and was banished, and ended his life as a teacher of rhetoric in Rhodes. Three of his speeches remain.

Aischines of Athens

A Greek philosopher from the 5th to 4th century BCE, he was a devout follower of Socrates. He was present at his teacher's trial and at his deathbed, and his Socratic Dialogues are considered to be the best representation of his teacher's character, but unlike Antisthenes and Aristippus, he did not form a school of thought.
