Daiichi Kangyo Bank [Stock] - Daiichi Kangyo Bank
It was established in 1971 by the merger of Daiichi Bank and the Industrial Bank of Japan. It was in the limelight as a pioneer of large-scale bank mergers, and maintained its position as the largest bank in Japan until the establishment of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in 1996. It took over lottery trusteeship services from the Industrial Bank of Japan, and was well-liked as a familiar bank with its catchphrase "The Bank of the Heart." However, in 1997, the former president and others were arrested in a case of providing benefits to corporate racketeers, and some of the bank's operations were suspended, significantly damaging its image. In March 1999, when there were concerns about a financial crisis, the government introduced 900 billion yen in public funds. In September 2000, the Industrial Bank of Japan and Fuji Bank established a joint financial holding company, Mizuho Holdings, and in April 2002, the three banks, Daiichi Bank, Fuji Bank, and Industrial Bank of Japan, were split up and reorganized to form Mizuho Bank and Mizuho Corporate Bank.
