(2) After the Kamakura period, the term "kenzan" came to be used when visiting and meeting someone of similar social status, and the form "kenzan ni ru" ("ni ru" is a 4-step conjugation) was often used when meeting a nobleman.
(3) The use of "kensan" to mean "attend a meeting" or "meet in person" is unique to Japan and is not found in Chinese documents.
(4) In the Middle Ages and the Middle Ages, the unwritten form "gesan" with the glottal stop "n" was often seen, but for convenience, the example of the kanji spelling "kenzan" is included in the "genzan" entry.

(2)鎌倉期以降は身分差がさほどない相手を訪れて面会する場合にも「見参」が用いられるようになり、貴人に会う際には特に「見参に入る」（「入る」は四段活用）の形が取られることが多くなった。
(3)「見参」を「参会」や「対面」の意で用いるのは日本独自の用法で、中国の文献には見られない。
(4)中古、中世には撥音「ん」の無表記形「げざん」が多く見られるが、「見参」と漢字表記の例は便宜上「げんざん」の項目に収めた。
