〘Noun〙① A type of stringed instrument. Refers to other kotos than the gagaku koto (koto used in gagaku). There are differences in the details of the shape. ② Refers to modern koto music, such as the Yatsuhashi school founded by Yatsuhashi Kengyo in Kyoto around the Tenwa and Jokyo eras ( 1681-88 ), and the Ikuta school, Tsugiyama school, Fujiike school, Shin-Yatsuhashi school, Yamada school, and Kyogoku school that branched off from that school. 〘名〙① 弦楽器の一つ。楽箏(雅楽の箏)に対してそれ以外の箏をいう。細部の形状などに違いがある。② 天和・貞享年間(一六八一‐八八)頃、京都で八橋検校が創始した八橋流を初めとして、その門から分派した生田流・継山流・藤池流・新八橋流・山田流・京極流などの近代箏曲をいう。
