Puma - Puma (English spelling)

They are mammals of the order Carnivora and family Felidae. They are also called American lions or cougars. They are found in most areas from western Canada to the southern tip of South America, including deserts, rocky areas, grasslands, and forests, from plains to high mountains. They are 1.1 to 1.6 meters long, with a tail length of 60 to 85 centimeters, and weigh 30 to 120 kilograms. Their size and color vary widely, usually yellowish brown, but occasionally black, brown, or gray. Adults are solid-colored with black ears and the tips of their tails, but young ones have large dark spots on their bodies. They live alone and are active in the early morning and after sunset. They are good swimmers and climbers, but they live on the ground and feed mainly on deer, which accounts for 50 to 70% of their total food in North America. They also attack beavers, porcupines, and occasionally sheep and horses. Male territories are 9-50 km2 and female territories 5-20 km2; male territories do not overlap, but a male's territory may overlap with that of one or more females. The breeding season is not fixed, but in North America most pups are born in the summer. The gestation period is 92-96 days, and females give birth to 2-4 pups, sometimes up to 6, in nests among rocks. The pups are 25-30 cm long and weigh 400-500 g, and suckle for about 5 weeks. The females start bringing hares and squirrels, and usually spend a year with them. They can live up to 19 years in captivity.
