…Hippocrates used brachiōn together with pēchys to mean the forearm in his Treatise on Fractures and other works, but Aristotle, in his History of Animals, said that the arm brachiōn consisted of the shoulder, upper arm ankon, elbow, lower arm pēchys, and hand, showing the ambiguity of the meaning of brachiōn. In Latin, upper arm is lacertus, and lower arm is bracchium. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, in the passage where Apollo praises Daphne, it is written, "He praised her fingers, hand, lower arm bracchium, and upper arm lacertus, which was more than half exposed." …
