Nishisenboku [town] - Nishisenboku

Japanese: 西仙北[町] - にしせんぼく

This old town in Senboku-gun occupies the middle reaches of the Omono River and the surrounding hills in central Akita Prefecture. Its center is Kariwano, a former river port on which the Ou Main Line runs. Rice is the main crop, but leaf tobacco and horticultural crops are also cultivated. Kariwano is home to a tug-of-war event that is said to have a 500-year tradition. In March 2005, it merged with Omagari City, Senboku-gun Kamioka Town, Nakasen Town, Kyowa Town, Senboku Town, Ota Town, and Minami-Tono Village to become a city. ^{168.40 km2} . 秋田県中部，雄物(おもの)川中流域と周辺の丘陵地を占める仙北郡の旧町。中心はかつての河港で，奥羽本線が通じる刈和野(かりわの)。米作を中心に葉タバコ，園芸作物の栽培も行われる。刈和野に500年の伝統をもつという綱引行事が伝わる。2005年３月大曲市，仙北郡神岡町，中仙町，協和町，仙北町，太田町，南外村と合併し市制，大仙市となる。168.40km²。１万896人（2003）。
